Eid Al-Fitr: Strengthening the Brotherhood
20. April 2023Dear Brothers and Sisters!
We have completed a Ramadan with mercy at the beginning, forgiveness in the middle, and salvation at the end. We are saddened by the end of this blessed month, but at the same time we are happy to reach the morning of Eid, when the feelings of Islamic brotherhood are experienced with enthusiasm. Eid are the days when love and respect among believers are revived to the fullest. Endless praise to Allah (swt) who brought us to Eid safe and sound. Peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad (saw), who describes Eid as days of joy and remembrance of Allah (swt). Eid Mubarak to all our Muslim brothers and sisters!
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
Allah (swt) mentions in the Quran, “To whoever, male or female, does good deeds and has faith, We shall give a good life and reward them according to the best of their actions.”[1] We pray that our good deeds and worship have increased in the month of Ramadan. Believing that these will be acceptable in the sight of Allah (swt). We should carry this blessing and prosperity of Ramadan to other months and continue the good habits we have gained. We must maintain the sensitivity of worshiping Allah (swt) that we show in Ramadan for the rest of our lives.
Dear Jama’ah!
Eid should be the days when the Islamic brotherhood that we need is understood wholeheartedly. Mother, father, spouse, friends, relatives and neighbours should be visited. Those who are far away should at least be called. All those we know who have passed away should be remembered by reciting Surah Fatiha. The ayah; “believers are none but brothers.”[2] should be applied to our lives. Let’s not forget that during Eid, the requirements of brotherhood are fulfilled and that we are concerned about one another. If there are aggrieved ones around us, they must be reunited. Rasulullah (saw) said, “Give gifts to one another. Because the gift takes away the grudge from the heart.”[3] Let’s win each other’s hearts with actual and verbal gifts. Let’s be generous in complimenting one another.
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
Rasulullah (saw) has said, “The Muslim is the brother of another Muslim.”[4] On this blessed day, let’s not forget about our Muslim brothers and sisters around the world who are in trouble and the oppressed who are persecuted. Let’s pray for our brothers and sisters living in Palestine, East Turkestan and other oppressed areas on this blessed day when prayers are accepted. May Allah (swt) bring these oppressed and aggrieved brothers and sisters to safety as soon as possible.
Let’s make our children feel that Eid is a special time and let’s give them a sense of joy. May Allah (swt) allow us to see the real days of Eid where all the oppressed and aggrieved people in the world are happy. Ameen!
