Eid al-Adha Means Solidarity with Those in Need
22. December 2023Kemal Ergün, Chairman of the Islamic Community Millî Görüş (IGMG), congratulated the Islamic world on Eid al-Adha (June 28-July 1).
Ergün began his message by saying, “Holidays are a time of both joy and responsibility: Rejoicing with our loved ones means taking on the responsibility of solidarity with people in need. With these feelings, we congratulate your holiday as the Islamic Community Millî Görüş.”
Ergün continued his holiday felicitation as follows:
“Religious holidays are joyful occasions for spending time with family and friends, fostering communal ties, and expressing gratitude for life’s blessings. Religious holidays are also days of reflection on values, solidarity, and mutual interest and support. Eid al-Adha serves as a reminder of the sacrifice and submission to Allah that the Prophet Ibrâhîm (as) shown throughout his life. It is a time to give thanks, pray, and help others, particularly the more disadvantaged and downtrodden people.
It is in this spirit that we will celebrate this holiday. Along with our family and friends, we will also keep in mind those who are less fortunate, those who live in poverty, and migrants and refugees who have left their homes, families, and friends as well as their possessions in search of safety and assistance.
In the many verses of the Qur’an, it encourages us to be generous and to help those in distress. May Allah accept our offerings, bestow a happy Eid on Muslims, and grant everyone on earth good health and peace.
As the Islamic Community Millî Görüş, we congratulate all those who have completed their Hajj in these days. May Allah accept your pilgrimage.
