Minister Feaser gives hope against far-right
17. February 2022Bekir Altaş, Secretary General of the Islamic Community Millî Görüş (IGMG), made a statement on the occasion of German Interior Minister Nancy Feaser’s statements on the fight against the extreme right. “People suffering from racism have long lacked the sense that politics is taking the far right seriously.” said Altaş, and continued his words as follows:
“Federal Interior Minister Nancy Feaser’s rhetoric since she took office on the fight against the far right gives strength and encouragement. We have not had a feeling for a long time that politics deals with the anxieties and fears of those suffering from the far right. There was also a feeling that the far-right was not perceived as a threat, but rather the opposite. Minister Feaser displays a different image and gives confidence.
Another year has passed since the Hanau massacre, and the trial process of the accused, who sent the threatening letters signed “NSU2.0” in Frankfurt, is still going on. Especially in these days we are living in, the statements of the Minister are very important for people who suffer from mentalities such as racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism or antiziganism to feel safe.
It is time to destroy the networks of the extreme right, drain their financial resources and take away all their weapons. In addition, the connection of far-right networks with state institutions should be investigated and revealed. Politics urgently needs to improve anti-discrimination law. The shortcomings found in the general equal treatment law have been known for years and should be corrected as soon as possible.”
